Since humble beginnings in 2013, Ryley Jewellery Creations has made its mark in South East Queensland as a premier destination for custom, bespoke jewellery that sparks joy in the lives of our clients.
Creative Director, Ewen Ryley and his team of AWARD WINNING jewellers specialise in unique, exquisitely hand made jewellery creations.
Ewen’s journey to become a jeweller started in the year 2000 when he and his family took him on a trip to visit his uncle in the small township of Cooktown. Ewen’s uncle had a strong passion for fossicking and gathering historical remnants of the local area. His uncle took him on numerous adventures where Ewen dug up age old artefacts and also rock crystals which then ignited his passion for precious gemstones. After completing high school and winning the senior art prize, Ewen studied in Brisbane to become a qualified Gemologist. This study continued while he set his sights on becoming a jeweller. Ewen pursued various silversmithing courses to enhance his technical skills before commencing his jewellery manufacturing apprenticeship in 2004. On deciding to further his career in Brisbane, he obtained a leadership position in Australia's largest manufacturing workshop.
He won 'Best Overall Design' and Apprentice of the Year Runner-Up at the Queensland Jewellery Apprentice Awards and then began handmaking 'Honey of the New World' and was signed off as a tradesperson in 2009. As a trade jeweller he entered the International Opal Jewellery Design Awards where 'Honey of the New World' took out first place.
He then began to expand his knowledge and skills under a master jeweller at one of Queensland's most awarded jewellers. In July 2012, he was notified that his newest masterpiece 'Penguin Playground' was a finalist in Australasia's largest jewellery design competition.
He now had sights set on the next venture of his life; to bring his passion, style and creativity to life and to share it with you by opening his very first jewellery studio together with his wife, Christel in the Toowoomba CBD in November of 2013.
Ewen is now known as an industry leader as a director of the Young Jewellers Group which supports apprentices and young trades people in the jewellery industry and has recently been appointed Director for the Jewellery Industry Network. Ewen is a respected member within the jewellery industry, particularly with his influence in the apprenticeship program. He has provided commentary to several magazines including the prestigious Jeweller Magazine with his views on improvements to the apprenticeship pathway and the deterioration of this unique trade. His enthusiasm for quality masterpieces is recognised by leading industry professionals with Ewen judging the Queensland Jewellery Apprenticeship Awards in 2015, the Jewellery Design and Manufacturing Championships and more recently judging the Jewellery Industry Network 2021 Bench Competition.
